LET NZIM HELP ADVANCE YOUR CAREER THROUGH MENTORING
 

‘Mentoring involves primarily encouragement, listening with empathy, sharing experience and developing insight while acting as a sounding board.’

For some years NZIM Southern has assisted individual managers with specific challenges they face in their jobs and careers.

We have a small team of highly skilled senior executives who volunteer their time to share their wisdom and experience.

Recipients find the opportunity to get an impartial view from a senior executive invaluable in dealing with challenges or problems. This service is available to individual and corporate members.

Mentoring has been in use for a number of years and many have found the exercise very helpful in clarifying the direction their personal development should take.

Others have identified individual strengths and weaknesses, related these to their work situations and arranged some very positive discussion meetings with their seniors, resulting in positive career advancement and a happier workplace environment.

There is still some confusion relating to the roles of Mentoring, Coaching, and Consulting but in principle these are the key differences:

 
•  In broad principles the Coach or Consultant is briefed with an end goal requirement and is given the authority and responsibility to achieve theses results by working with or through the nominated individual.
•  Mentoring however is the helping hand role whereby the authority and responsibility for actions taken is not passed to the Mentor. i.e.The participant has sole ownership of their destiny.
•  The protégé in the mentoring process must want to undertake the exercise.
•  Absolute confidentiality, and the freedom to speak honestly without bias or pressure from peers is the key to open the door to beneficial returns from the Mentoring process.
